Emergency Planning & Welfare Team

The purpose of the Emergency Planning and Welfare Team is to ensure that Bury can deliver an effective response, meeting the physical and emotional needs of the people of Bury, in the event of a major incident or disaster.

About the Team

The Welfare Team are a group of volunteers from employees of the council and from the voluntary sector, who provide care and assistance to people affected by emergencies. The team works alongside the Emergency Planning Team, and plays a critical part of Bury Council's wider response to any disaster that may occur in the borough.

Volunteers' details are entered onto a contact list, and may be called on to help during an emergency incident.

The work of the team is wide and varied, but it includes caring for people who have been evacuated from their homes, providing assistance to vulnerable people in their homes during an emergency, and caring for the survivors of disasters and the relatives and loved ones of those affected. The team has provided help and support to people in a number of emergency incidents.

The Welfare Team is a highly rewarding and supportive team, where volunteers can make a significant contribution to the community, whilst also increasing their experience and skills. Full training is provided to volunteers.

The Welfare Team is always interested in finding new members, for this exciting and rewarding challenge. If you think that you might like to join the Welfare Team, or for an informal chat if you would like to know more, then please contact Linda Jackson in Adult Care Services on 0161 253 7570.
