Putting Service Users First

Privacy, Dignity, Choice and Self Determination

The privacy, dignity, choice and self determination are of paramount importance.

Whenever possible the wishes, likes and dislikes of the service user are identified and adhered to.  All services are provided in such a way as to assist the user with decision making and respecting those decisions.

All personal care is carried out in a respectful manner in private areas.  We always try to encourage the service use to be as independent as possible and maintain skills as far as possible.

Service users are spoken to in a respectful manner as adults with allowance for differing degrees of understanding and communication.  Any discussion concerning personal, private needs of a service user is carried out sensitively and respectfully.

If a service user has a visit from another professional they are invited into one of the two small lounges for privacy.  A member of the care team will stay with the service user if he/she wishes.

Consultation with Service Users and Carers

Pinfold Lane staff value the opinions and ideas of users and carers to ensure continuous development and improvement.  These are gained by:-

  • Holding regular service user meetings
  • A first review after 8 weeks attendance then at annual review meetings
  • Questionnaires
  • Suggestion box
  • Individual contact with families
  • Holding a support group for service users to feedback to staff

Fire Precautions and Associated Emergency Procedures

A comprehensive fire detection system is in place which is tested on a weekly basis on a Wednesday morning.

Fire exit doors are in place to comply with Fire Regulations.  These are alarmed so the staff are aware if a service user attempts to leave the unit.

All doors, escapes and equipment are checked weekly to comply with legal requirements.

Staff trained as Fire Marshals are available on all shifts.

Checking of all equipment and turning off and unplugging of electrical equipment is part of the evening lock up procedure.
