A Brief Guide to Day Care for Older People
For people (with disabilities and ill health) living at home, there are centres which provide a safe environment where they can:
- Have company and friendship
- Get help with personal care including hairdressing and bathing
- Join in activities that help with maintaining independence
- Learn new skills and carry on with old ones and
- Go on everyday outings such as shopping trips, visits to places of interest, visits to friends or to the pub
- Provide alternative care to allow carers a break
These services are only available following an assessment of need. This is a discussion with you to find out how best to support you with the problems you are having. We will look at your needs and decide whether you are eligible for services including attending one of our day centres.
