Award
A council initiative for the over 50’s in Bury has been given an award by the North West Employers Organisation for ‘Recognising Diversity’.
The Age of Opportunities team was presented the award on Wednesday 23rd April at the Lowry Hotel. The award is given to Local Authorities in the North West that can clearly show examples of good practice and promotes equality of opportunities in terms of Age, Disability, Gender, Race, Sexual Orientation and Faith.
Age of Opportunities is a partnership project involving the council, PCT and other local organisations and has provided a number of projects to promote positive ageing to over 4,000 residents.
Age of Opportunities has also recently been recognised as a model of good practice in promoting health and well-being on a national level. The Improvement and Development Agency (IDEA) have included Age of Opportunities in their Healthy Communities Calendar for 2008 along with other models of good practice. This calendar is distributed throughout the country to all Local Authorities and Primary Care Trusts.
T.S.B Indoor Bowls League - Teams Required
The season runs from October to march and is played at Castle Leisure Centre on Thursday’s and Friday’s. We run two divisions with twelve teams in each division but currently we have vacancies for three or four teams. A match consists of two pairs of players playing on two mats. Division one will play Thursday at week one and on Friday at week two alternating throughout the season. Division two will play on opposite days. Matches commence at 9-30 am and then every hour, last match starts at 2-30pm.
