Family centres are run by the National Children's Home (NCH), a registered charity, provide safe play and education opportunities for all children, and offer parenting support, education and career development services to parents, as well as practical help with issues such as debt or domestic violence. Each centre is different, offering services responsive to the needs of the families and communities they serve.
As well as supporting families who are experiencing specific difficulties caring for their children, parent/family centres are open to all local families. These centres run nurseries, crèches, sessional day care and school holiday clubs. Some also run toy libraries allowing children to borrow books, toys and games for use at home. Family centres recognise the fundamental importance of supporting parents in their caring role and encouraging them to help their children play, learn and develop.
The centres offer advice, support and information regarding parenting, behaviour management, child development and early years education.
