Formerly the Early Years Team, the Childcare & Extended Services Team (CES) provides support for those involved in meeting the Government’s 
Every Child Matters agenda in improving outcomes for children through Childcare Facilities, Children’s Centres and Extended Schools.
We need to ensure that every child, whatever their background or their circumstances, will have the support they need to:
• Be healthy
• Stay safe
• Enjoy and achieve
• Make a positive contribution
• Achieve economic well-being
CES is made up of smaller teams:
Children & Young People’s Information Service
Provides information on local childcare, activities and family support services available to children and young people (0 to 19 years and to include disabled young people up to 25 years) their families, carers and those working to support local families and also includes the Bury Service Directory (Bury Community Contacts) - information about services available to children, young people, families and local communities within Bury.
Childcare Equality & Improvement
Making a reality of fully inclusive practice that recognises and meets the needs of all children within Early Years settings. High quality, personalised Early Years provision is a core entitlement for all children as set out in the Early Years Foundation Stage and will underpin everything that local authorities and settings do to improve quality in the early years.
Childcare Suffiency
Will assess and secure sufficient childcare to meet the demands of parents and carers in Bury and will provide information and advice to childcare providers on business planning and sustainability issues. This team also provides finance and administrative support for the rest of the CES team.
Workforce Development
Developing the Early Years Workforce Strategy to improve outcomes for children and young people by delivering an expert workforce capable of leading the development of professional practice, as strongly as in schools, and responding to the challenges of raising standards through continuous quality improvement.
Extended Services
Improving outcomes for all children though Extended Schools, Children’s Centres and Play.
