Looked after children

Children who are looked after away from home

The looked after children (LAC) team is made up of professionals from different agencies that are committed to the needs of children who are looked after by the local authority.

The team consists of a team manager, consultant clinical psychologist, social workers including a senior practitioner, teachers including an advisory teacher, a designated nurse and a child and adolescent mental health nurse plus administrative support.

Research has shown that the needs of looked after children and young people are less likely to be met than those of children in the general population. Having professionals working together to address children's needs is beneficial to them. A collective approach ensures that all efforts are made to enhance the child's wellbeing and improve life chances.
