04 What are the rewards?

Whatever type of fostering you do, you can make a real difference to a child's life – often seeing their confidence and self-esteem grow with your care.

There is a real sense of achievement from supporting a young person through the turbulent teenage years into further education or employment.

As a foster carer you can help to keep families together. The child's parents have often had very difficult experiences themselves and you may be able to help them develop their own parenting skills.

Fostering can enrich your own experiences of life. Foster carers often say that their whole family has developed new insights and skills. Fostering can also present you with new challenges and can be demanding.
