Children who wait

Being a parent is a challenge in normal circumstances, but with adoption there is much more to consider.

Here are some pen pictures of children who have been placed for adoption:

Clare was one year old when placed for adoption. Her mother’s involvement with drugs and her chaotic lifestyle meant that she could not look after Clare. Clare’s grandmother was Afro-Caribbean and Clare was placed with a childless couple where the adoptive father was Afro-Caribbean. Clare was initially a very anxious child.

Gemma and Michael were eight and six years old when placed for adoption with a couple in their 40’s who had teenage children of their own. Michael has some learning difficulties and needs extra help in school. Their adopters will be enabling the children to keep in contact with two older siblings who are being looked after by their grandmother.

Jason, Kelly and Kyle were five, four and two years old when placed for adoption with a childless couple in their 30’s. All the children have some developmental delay and had previously been much neglected. Their birth father had a severe mental illness.

Marie was three years old when placed for adoption. She had cerebral palsy and was placed with a single female adopter who had an understanding of children with special needs through her work.
