Self directed support

What is Self Directed Support?

Self directed support is social care support which service users choose, organise and control to meet their needs in a way that suits them, using resources available to them, to achieve what is important to them.

What does self directed support mean for people needing social care?

Self Directed support means that you get to find out how much money you have to spend on the help you need; you get to plan what you want to achieve and what is important to you; and you get to organise how you are going to get the help you need.  We will make sure you get as much help as you need to do all this, but you will be in control of what happens.

What does self directed support mean for Bury Council?

Self directed support gives people a completely new way to obtain the social care support that they need. It is about returning control to people, so that they can make their own decisions about the support they receive. To make this happen, Bury Council and its partners will need to make a lot of changes over the coming months and years.  Keep checking this webpage for updates on our progress!
