Low vision aids
In addition to ordinary spectacles there are aids to seeing called low vision aids (LVAs) e.g. magnifying glasses and other special lenses which are obtainable from the NHS.
If you need help, discuss the issue with your GP or eye specialist who may refer you to a low vision aid clinic. You can often get LVAs on free permanent loan.
Aids to daily living
There is a wide range of equipment available that can help you to live independently.
The physical disability and sensory impairment team can offer advice and practical help. This may be by adapting your existing appliances, or by assisting in the choice of the most appropriate equipment for your individual needs. The team may loan some equipment.
Other useful equipment may be obtained through local shops, Bury society for the blind or from catalogues especially for visually impaired people available from:
Royal National Institute for the Blind (RNIB).
