Additional Learning Disability Information

The Healthcare Commission

The Healthcare Commission, which is dedicated to promoting improvements in the quality of heathcare and public health in England, produced a report in 2007 that called for sweeping changes in the services that individuals with learning difficulties receive. This report placed a number of expectations on the local Partnership Boards. Bury's Learning Disability Partnership Board have these actions to address.

Learning disability Local Authority day services

The learning disability service has a range of day services including:

  • Whittle Pike Day Centre, Ramsbottem. A day centre that offers a variety of activities according to individual need.
  • Wheatfields Day Centre, Whitefield. Has places for 20 individuals with complex needs and 40 individuals with moderate needs.
  • William Kemp Heaton Day Centre, St. Peters Road Bury. Has 22 places for individuals with complex needs and 38 places for individuals with moderate needs.
  • Outreach service, is a dispersed day service based in community situations across the borough.
