The aim of the Emotional Pupil Referral Unit is as follows:-
To provide continuing education for a small number of pupils at key stage 3/4 who cannot attend school due to their long term medical needs
The role of the Emotional Pupil Referral Unit is as follows:-
- To liaise with pupil, family, school and home tutor to establish a personal education plan with a clear expectation of a return to school
- To provide teaching on a sessional basis either morning or afternoon at the discretion of the teacher in charge
- To deliver a core curriculum
- To offer subject specialisms in conjunction with the home tuition staff as appropriate to the pupil's needs
- To set rigorous homework for completion between attendance at the centre
- To support the pupil's emotional needs through alternative curriculum activities
- To prepare pupils for assessment at the appropriate key stages
- Where appropriate, to consider alternate assessments at key stage 4
- To encourage liaison and social interaction with the mainstream school
- To liaise with external agencies e.g. Connexions, Child & Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS) etc
- To work with the mainstream school to support work experience placement where appropriate
Our criteria for attendance:-
Pupils will have
- A medical diagnosis and supporting medical evidence
- Received home tuition for a minimum of 12 weeks
- Been fully co-operative with the home tutor
- Become teenage mothers and whose return to school is unlikely
- Family support to encourage involvement in work set by the teacher in charge
- Family support to ensure regular and punctual attendance at the centre
