Do your bit to keep Bury clean, tidy and litter-free - take the Bury street care pledge

Will you take the Bury street care pledge?

Bury Council has launched a new initiative which compliments the already well-established Bury in Bloom campaign, aims to develop community pride and could ultimately involve the whole community in helping to keep Bury clean, tidy and litter-free.

Named ‘Bury street care pledge’, this new scheme is all about looking after our environment, reducing litter and promoting recycling as well as making Bury a cleaner, safer, greener place for all who live here, work here and visit the Borough.

Who can take the Bury street care pledge?

You can commit to taking the Bury street care pledge if you are:

  • a resident in Bury;
  • a school in Bury; or
  • a business in Bury.

What do I commit to if I take the Bury street care pledge?

In general terms:

  • Residents will commit to keeping the land around their home clean, tidy and litter free.
  • Schools will commit to educating pupils to look after their environment now and in the future as well as keeping the land around their school clean, tidy and litter free.
  • Businesses will commit to ensuring that any waste they produce is handled safely and in accordance with the law, they will promote responsible disposal of litter to employees and be a positive example to others.

Go to the Bury street care pledge web page to commit to the pledge online.

Raise the profile of your business with great value sponsorship

Bury Council is offering local businesses a range of great value sponsorship opportunities at high profile locations throughout the Borough.

As winner of North West in Bloom (best large town) for four year’s running in 2004, 2005, 2006 and 2007, Bury is certainly achieving the recognition it deserves for being cleaner, safer and greener. Our aim is continue to repeat this success through greater engagement with the community and support from new and existing sponsors.

As a local business you can become a part of this fantastic success. Through sponsorship of gateway signs, township signs and roundabouts or green spaces, businesses get the chance to advertise at some of the town’s busiest locations with up to 70,000 potential customers passing by each day.

As well as reaching a wide audience, this kind of sponsorship helps to give something back to the Borough by providing funds to carry out landscape improvements at gateways, roundabouts and green spaces for the benefit of the whole community.

Stuart Harrison, Managing Director at Moorgate Kitchens, sponsor of Heap Bridge roundabout says “Anyone considering investing in ‘Bury in Bloom’ should do so without hesitation. Working in partnership with this scheme has allowed us to raise the profile of our business whilst also providing a welcome sight for visitors and the community of Bury to enjoy.”

A number of new locations at major roads throughout the Borough are available now for sponsorship.

New sponsors will be in good company. Our other supporters of Bury in Bloom include Chadwicks Black Puddings, Michael Wood Homes, Mill Gate Shopping Centre, Newtons of Bury, 888 Frozen Foods, Pilsworth Environmental Company, Printpac and Slattery's. Each of these companies are doing their bit to help improve Bury which is not only good for their business but our town as well.

    Bury Safe needs you!

    About Bury Safe

BurySafe is about using community-based policing to tackle problems in your neighbourhood, in particular, anti-social behaviour. Local authorities and the police have gained additional powers to tackle antisocial behaviour. Now action can and is being taken.

    About anti-social behaviour

Acting in an anti-social manner can cover a wide range of behaviour from serious harassment, discrmination, drinking on our streets and bullying to littering or dog fouling. Anti-social behaviour can be unpleasant, annoying and threatening and can affect the lives of everyone, young and old.

Together we can make a difference

By working together we can build a society where we can respect one another and communities can live in peace together.

Here’s how you can help: If you witness anti-social behaviour in your neighbourhood - tell us about it.

Speak up: Don’t let your neighbourhood become a crime hotspot, which can lead to a reduction in the value of our home.

If you see it – report it! Report crime in confidence to:

    Crimestoppers - phone 0800 555 111
