On Thursday 15 May 2008, as part of the wide-ranging Love Prestwich initiative, Prestwich Local Area Partnership launched the Prestwich anti-litter campaign which will promote respect for the environment throughout Prestwich Village town centre.
Working alongside local businesses, schools and residents, officers from Bury Council are aiming to make Prestwich a cleaner, safer, greener place to live, work, study and visit.
About the aims of the Prestwich anti-litter campaign
There are three major aims to the anti-litter campaign:
(1) raising awareness;
(2) encouraging the community to take pride in their area; and
(3) giving people the knowledge and confidence to report offenders.
Aim 1: Raising awareness
The campaign will:
• inform people about fixed penalties for fly tipping;
• encourage residents and businesses to reduce, re-use and recycle waste; and
• promote the work of Bury Council’s street care teams.
Aim 2: Taking pride in your area
The campaign will:
• encourage schools, residents and businesses to sign up to the Bury street care pledge;
• educate local businesses about their Duty of Care to legally dispose of their business waste;
• provide educational visits and promotional materials to schools; and
• promote community involvement through clean-up days
Aim 3: Catching offenders
The campaign will:
• help to identify hotspot areas;
• encourage people to report others that break the law; and
• educate the community about the Council’s enforcement role.
