Nappies

In households where babies wear disposable nappies, around 3-4% of the total household rubbish consists of nappies.

It is estimated that just one baby's disposable nappy waste from its nappy years will fill around 156 black rubbish bags (this amounts to around 5000 nappies until a child is potty trained).

In the UK, around 8 million nappies are thrown away into our rubbish bins every single day.  It is becoming increasingly important that we explore different ways in which we can reduce this type of rubbish as our landfill sites are rapidly filling-up.

As part of Bury Council's ongoing campaign to reduce, reuse and recycle the districts rubbish; we are encouraging parents to make an informed decision when choosing what type of nappies to use for their child.

Real (washable) nappies are now widely available in a range of sizes, colours, designs and prices.
