Town planning involves much more than planning towns, and is often referred to simply as planning. Many planners, in both the public and private sectors, work within the planning system laid down by Central Government. But planners are also engaged work in a wide variety of other work.
At Bury Council, our team of planners deal with Development Control matters, Building Control, Planning Policies, Conservation and Heritage, Wildlife issues and Environmental and Development Projects. All of these sections make up a team of qualified professionals who can deal with your day to day planning needs.
Many planners at Bury Council are members of the Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI), which exists to advance the science and art of town planning for the benefit of the public. The RTPI is a membership organisation, and a registered charity. The RTPI is going through a process of change based on its New Vision for Planning. For more information go to the RTPI website.
For people and communities who cannot afford to hire a planning consultant, Planning Aid provides free, independent and professional help, advice and support on planning issues. Planning Aid complements the work of local authorities but is wholly independent of them. For more information go to the planning aid website.
