The Bradley Fold railway path was built in 1998 along a 1.25 km section of the former Bury to Bolton railway line at a cost of £70,000. It was grant-aided by the Pilsworth Environmental Company and the Countryside Commission and will eventually form part of an off-road route between Bury and Bolton parallel with the A58.
Looking further ahead, the path is included as part of a proposal to develop a link between the National Cycle Network at Wigan and at Rochdale, to be known as National Route 80.
