The site of the former Starmount bleachworks and Lomax papermill at Blackshaw Brook Valley in Little Lever, Bolton, has been derelict for 27 years.
The Blackshaw Brook phase 3 project has involved extensive reclamation works and co-oporation between Bury and Bolton Councils with funding coming through the Department of the Environment and English Partnerships.
The formerly industrialised valley now provides around 10 hectares of valuable open space and a recreational resource for the growing communities of Bradley Fold, Radcliffe North, Breightmet and Little Lever.
Phase 3 involved the treatment of a further 4 hectares of land which included Starmount Lodge and the associated Browns Road lagoons, which are now suitable for fishing and wildlife conservation.
