Radcliffe Banana Path

Background

The banana path (as the pupils of local schools call it, because it is yellow and bendy), is a pleasant, traffic free route linking three schools, a station and housing on the north side of Radcliffe town centre. Between the station and canal it also serves as part of National Cycle Route 6, which passes through Radcliffe between Manchester and Preston.

Progress to Date

The section between Spring Land and the canal was widened and re-surfaced in 2002/2003 at a cost of £87,000. The section from the canal to Ainsworth Road was surfaced, re-aligned and lit in 2004 at a cost of £180,000. All together, 1.5 kms of path has been improved. Grant assistance was provided by the Countryside Commission and teh New Opportunities Lottery Fund.

It is intended eventually to extend the path west of Ainsworth Road to Bradley Fold to join the Bury to Bolton Greenway.
