The Council has its own ecologist, who with the Greater Manchester Ecology Unit (GMEU) helps monitor and retain the best of the borough's wildlife sites.

Conserving Our Natural Environment
The Council's commitment to conserving and enhancing our natural environment is clearly expressed in the Bury Unitary Development Plan, the Local Agenda 21 Strategy and a number of major initiatives and strategies.
