National Land Information Service

Bury MBC is committed to meeting e-Government modernisation and on-line targets. We are now accepting search requests on-line via the NLIS website.

NLIS is a government initiative aimed at delivering services electronically, with the ultimate aim of speeding up the conveyancing process by using electronic transactions. The service connects law firms, conveyancers and data providers such as HM Land Registry, the Environment Agency and Local Authority Local Land Charges Registers.

NLIS has been designed to provide a one-stop shop for all the land and property related information throughout England and Wales. NLIS is helping to transform the whole process of property transfer, and is the start of e-conveyancing.

We encourage the users of our service to become NLIS users. Solicitors using the NLIS service will enjoy a number of benefits including:

  • Quicker response times, as searches are submitted and returned on-line
  • Searches can be tracked on-line, and solicitors can monitor the progress of their search
  • Solicitors do not need to raise cheques, payment is made by BACS and monies are automatically transferred from solicitors accounts to the Local Authority
