The Planning & Transportation Policy section has moved to new offices in Knowsley Place. Knowsley Place is located opposite the main public entrance to the Town Hall, off Knowsley Street, Bury.
Our new address is:

The whole of the Planning Division has relocated from Craig House to Knowsley Place. Other than our address all other contact details are the same.

Welcome to the web pages of the Planning and Transportation Policy Team. Our main task is to draw up planning policies and work on the Borough's development plan (which is a planning policy framework that planning applications are decided against).

Bury's current development plan is the Unitary Development Plan (UDP) which was officially adopted in 1997. The UDP is to be replaced by a new plan called the Local Development Framework or LDF. We have more information on what the LDF is, and what it will contain on our dedicated
LDF web pages.

In addition, we are also involved in:
- Producing supplementary planning advice and documents. These publications were called Supplementary Planning Guidance (SPG) and are linked to Bury's UDP. New supplementary publications are now called Supplementary Planning Documents (SPDs). These documents supplement matters covered in the development plan. - Undertaking planning policy research and information work on a variety of topics including housing, employment, retailing and other land use issues such as town centre vitality and environmental protection. For more information, see our Research and Information page.

- Transport planning, including the Greater Manchester Local Transport Plan.
