Strategic Housing Land Availability Assessment
As part of the 'Plan, Monitor and Manage' approach, Planning Policy Statement 3: Housing (PPS3) encourages local authorities to undertake Strategic Housing Land Availability Assessments (SHLAA) to help identify potential sites for residential development. The SHLAA is an assessment of how many units can be accommodated on identified sites and suggests the timeframes for when these sites are likely to be available.

Housing Land Availability Summary Statement
The Housing Land Availability Summary Statement is produced by the planning policy section and provides information on the available housing land in the Borough of Bury as of 1 April every year. It provides a brief summary of the current housing land supply, and includes a schedule of sites in the Borough which have an extant planning permission or are allocated for residential development. The SHLAA provides more details on these sites along with other sites that have potential for residential development.

Deliverability Summary
One of the Government's main objectives in Planning Policy Statement 3: Housing (PPS3) is to ensure a sufficient supply of deliverable housing sites to meet the housing requirements. The Council has done an assessment of all its sites within the SHLAA 2008 to determine whether they would be considered to meet the deliverability tests in PPS3 and can be included within a five-year supply of housing land.

Annual Housing Land Monitoring Report
The 'Plan, Monitor and Manage' approach to planning for housing requires continuous monitoring of a variety of housing indicators. The monitoring of these indicators is fundamental in shaping, revising and tracking the progress of planning policies, and in realising their objectives of ensuring an adequate supply of suitable housing is provided to meet the housing requirements of the community.
These documents supplement the Housing Land Availability Reports and provides a factual update of the housing land situation in Bury as at 1 April each year, and details the characteristics of the years housing competitions set against previous years. It also sets out the characteristics of the current supply of housing in the Borough, including sites under construction and with planning permission.
