Consultation Period
In recent years, there has been a steady increase in the number of planning applications relating to new development, conversion/re-use of buildings and equestrian activity in the Borough’s Green Belt and other valuable open land. Considering their sensitive location, these types of planning applications often have visual and other detrimental impacts upon the openness of the land. Of increasing concern, there have also been instances of unlawful and often inappropriate development in the Green Belt.
The Council has existing planning policies (contained within the Bury Unitary Development Plan or UDP) that provide general guiding policies on acceptable forms of development within Green Belt/open land. However, greater clarity on these policies is now considered to be required. In response, three Supplementary Planning Documents (SPDs) have been drawn up that seek to address such concerns, aiming to improve the quality, location, design and functioning of developments in the Borough’s Green Belt and valuable open land.
A report was taken to our Executive Committee on 28 June 2006 in order to approve three draft SPDs for a six week period of public consultation, from Monday 10 July until Monday 21 August 2006. The Executive Report and first Draft SPDs can be downloaded below:
