Notification of commencing work
You may begin work at any time after you have submitted a Full Plans Application or Building Notice provided you give at least 48 hours notice. A person carrying out building work (you or your builder if you have one) is required to notify the Building Control Officer at the following stages (where appropriate):
- Excavation or foundations.
- Foundation concrete.
- Oversite.
- Damp-proof course.
- Foul Water Drains.
- Surface Water Drains.
- Electrical wiring prior to covering.
- Occupation prior to completion.
- Completion.
The statutory framework for inspections laid out above may not be appropriate to all types of work (for example loft conversions). In order to provide the best possible service the Building Control Officer may request notification when other stages are reached (eg roof timbers) and your co-operation is requested in this regard.
Inspections will be carried out as necessary and if requested before 10.00 a.m. can generally be made the same day.
