The Members of the Planning Control Committee are all Councillors from the various parts of Bury Metropolitan Borough. The Committee meets ten times each year and determines planning applications for major development and others where objections have been received, commonly called "committee decisions". Details of the Council's scheme of delegation to the Planning Committee can be found on page 62, paragraph 3.2 of the Constitution (112KB 10 page PDF).
Some decisions are delegated to the Development Manager including all applications for house extensions and refusal of schemes that are unacceptable, these are commonly called "delegated decisions".
In some cases the Committee will visit the site where the development is proposed prior to considering the application. These visits are normally held in the afternoon before the meeting in the evening.
The meeting itself is open to anyone to attend. The Council's 'Have Your Say' initiative enables interested parties to address the Committee Members to explain, for example, their concerns about a proposal or their ideas behind it. A leaflet is available on request which explains how this works.
If you have any suggestions about these arrangements or other aspects of the Planning Service we would like to hear them. Please address any views to Brian Daniel, Chief Planning Officer at the address below.
