Youth Service

Bury Youth Service aims to provide the very best of facilities and services for young people in the Borough.  As well as youth centres in each area, there are opportunities for young people to join  Link to external web siteThe Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme,Link to external web site The Millennium Volunteers Programme, arts projects, holiday schemes, outdoor pursuits and residential trips.  The service works alongside the Parks Department to improve facilities for teenagers in parks and public spaces.  There is a Youth Cabinet and Area Youth Action Groups in each area that meet to discuss provision and other issues for young people.

The Youth Service also works with the Link to external web siteConnexions Service, which is an advice, information and guidance service for 13 - 19 year olds in Bury.  The service is easily accessible through schools, colleges, training providers and soon all youth centres.  Experienced Personal Advisors will support young people with whatever their needs are and help the young person to access support from other agencies where appropriate.  Young people will be actively involved in shaping the future of the service so young people can get involved at every opportunity.

All youth centres welcome volunteers willing to work with young people, please contact the Area Manager for the specific area you are interested in for an informal chat.  All volunteers will undergo a Criminal Records Check (enhanced) and will be required to supply references.
 
The Youth Service also works with many other voluntary youth organisations, such as the Scouts etc.  There are too many to list here, although most Area Managers should know of or work with other youth organisations in their specific area.  Use the contacts listed below to help you with your search.
