Work based learning

What are modern apprenticeships?

A modern apprenticeship is work-based training working towards a nationally recognised qualification.

It aims to develop the learner's knowledge and skills within their placement company through National Vocational Qualifications (NVQ's), Technical Certificates and Key Skills.

NVQ's are designed around the skills people use at work and cover all types and levels of work.

As part of the training programme learners will also be developing their Key Skills. Key Skills address the personal development of an individual and cover:
  • Communication
  • Application of Number
  • Information Technology
  • Personal Skills
  • Problem Solving
In a lot of cases Modern Apprenticeships are acceptable as a qualification for entry onto a degree course.

Entry to Employment (e2e)

Sometimes school leavers require a little more specialist help before they are ready to enter the workplace. Entry to Employment is a scheme which allows more tailored and individual attention to be paid to young people at a pace which is appropriate to their needs.
