The Graduate Teacher Programme and Registered Teacher Programme  - How to Gain Qualified Teacher Status

Anyone who wants to teach in a state-maintained school in England needs to achieve Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).  There are 2 routes to gaining QTS one for graduates (graduate teaching programme)and one for support staff employed in a school who have gained 240 CAT points as part of a first degree (registered teacher programme).  Grants are available for this employment route into teaching.

National College for School Leaders "Leadership from the Middle Programme"

Support staff are now able to access the National College for School leaders "Leadership from the Middle programme".

Leading from the Middle (LftM) is a 10-month professional development programme for middle leaders.  Groups of between two and four middle leaders from primary, secondary and special schools are supported by one leadership coach.  Applications are also welcomed from single schools or from groups of schools working together as a collaborative group. This programme is continually renewed to ensure it meets the needs of today's middle leaders.

The programme supports the leadership development of middle leaders in five key areas:

  1. Leadership of innovation and change
  2. Knowledge and understanding of their role in leading teaching and learning
  3. Enhancing self-confidence and skills as team leaders
  4. Building team capacity through the efficient use of staff and resources
  5. Active engagement in self-directed change in a blended learning environment

HLTA Programme for Bury

The last recruitment round for 2008-2009 for support staff wishing to apply to the HLTA programme opened in September 2008.  Closing date was 29 September 2008 and the HLTA Training Needs Analysis session to determine applicants own training needs was on 24 September 2008 at the Development and Training Centre, Bury.
