Concordia Secondary Science (113kb 15 page pdf) and Maths (104kb 11 page pdf)

These courses are offered at no cost in association with Salford City Council, the lead Authority. Teaching Assistants and Technicians who wish to develop their skills and knowledge of the generic aspects of teaching and learning support may wish to apply. The 12 day courses also offer Secondary Teaching Assistants and Technicians  the opportunity to further their knowledge and understanding of the secondary Science and Mathematics curriculum.

Four schools have accessed this subject focused training which has developed Technicians' and Teaching Assistants' subject knowledge at the same time as developing strategies to use on their return to the classroom.  Early indications show that it has been well received.

Primary 12 day Science training course is also offered at no cost to Primary School Teaching Assistants and HLTAs, also in asssociation with Salford City Council, the lead Authority.

To view career, training and development opportunities nationally, locally and within Bury Schools see the Bury Framework of Opportunities (345kb 3 page pdf).

Skills for Life Programme is a national drive to improve adult skills including the ability to read, write and spell in English and to use everyday maths.

For School Support Staff, these essential skills are especially important.  Staff who have the opportunity to brush up on or develop their skills are more effective in their jobs, help to improve standards and act as positive role models for pupils.
