The School Admissions Choice Advice service is now available and is a service aimed at parents or carers of children who may need some help with the school admissions process. It has been recognised that starting primary school and transferring to secondary school can be a stressful time and many families can feel confused by the schools admissions process. The aim of the adviser is to make the process as smooth and as stress free as possible.
The Adviser can also arrange one to one meetings with parents/carers and children to discuss any problems or difficulties that may occur during this time. This could also include the Adviser contacting outside agencies on the parent or carers behalf.
Services available include:
• Advice, information and support on all aspects of the school admissions process
• Individual support and guidance
• Help to complete Common Application Forms (CAF)
• A wide range of information on local primary and secondary schools
• Support to parents and carers in making informed and realistic decisions when expressing their preferences
• A friendly and flexible service to meet individual needs
• Information and advice on the appeals procedure
• Information regarding home to school travel
• Information regarding free school meals
It is important to understand that a child will not automatically be considered for a place at their preferred primary or secondary school. A Common Application Form (CAF) must be completed and returned to the School Admissions Team by the specified deadline date.
The School Choice Adviser can only advise the parents/carers, they cannot make decisions for them.
The School Choice Advice Service is independent and impartial.
