Why become a school governor?
To improve children's education in the community by supporting staff and the headteacher in making key decisions about the the school.
Who can be a school governor?
Anyone over 18, with some exceptions, for example:-
undischarged bankrupts
people who cannot work with children
people who have served a term of imprisonment
How much time does it take up?
N,o two governing bodies are the same, but generally it could be two or three meetings each term and you will also need to spend some time reading papers.
What should I expect at my first meeting?
Although it will be conducted formally, you should be welcomed and made to feel part of the team.

How is the governing body made up?
Governing bodies range in size from 9 - 20 members. They include parents, staff from the school, people chosen from the local community, people appointed by the Local Authority. Faith group representatives in Aided and Controlled schools.
