Crossing patrols

School crossing patrols ensure the travel to and from school is as safe as possible for local children.

Frequently asked questions

How does the Council decide where to place a School Crossing Patrol?
School Crossing Patrols are provided where children are in danger from road traffic when walking to and from school. This is not necessarily directly outside a school but could be anywhere on a direct route. When patrols are operating, they are able to stop traffic to allow all road users to cross.

Can I request a School Crossing Patrol point?
Yes.  Please contact us with details of your request or download the school crossing patrol point application form (21kb 1 page pdf)  Following a request we will survey the area to see if it meets the national criteria which includes a vehicle and pedestrian count.

How many School Crossing Patrols does Bury Metro Council operate?
Currently we have 79 school crossing patrol sites.

Do you have any job vacancies?
We regularly recruit permanent and stand-by patrols. For current vacancies please visit our jobs pages.
