1) What should I do if I want to take my child on holiday during term-time?
It is with the discretion of the Head Teacher and not an automatic right, that up to ten days may be authorised for a family holiday, in any one academic year, taking into account a child's previous school attendance.
A letter should be sent as soon as possible asking for permission for your child to be absent from school.
2) If I have a query on one of your services, who should I contact?
For advice regarding juvenile employment/entertainment licences, please contact the Juvenile Employment Admin Officer on 0161 253 5693.
For advice on school attendance, exclusion from school, teenage pregnancy or holidays in term time, please contact the Duty Officer on 0161 253 5699.
3) What do I do if my child is being bullied?
In the first instance, the school should be contacted and a meeting arranged to address your concerns. If you are dis-satisfied with the outcome, you should contact the Chair of Governors to raise your concerns.
If the issue remains unresolved, contact the Education Welfare Officer assigned to the school for advice and support.
4) My child has been excluded from school, how can I appeal against the decision?
If your child has received an exclusion over 5 days, you have the right to appeal to the Governing Body of the school. A letter of appeal should be forwarded to the Chair of Governors, via the school, within 7 days of receipt of the exclusion letter.
5) My child has been permanently excluded from school. What happens next?
The Education Welfare Officer responsible for the school will contact you within 3 days of receipt of the exclusion letter to discuss the circumstances of the exclusion, the appeals process and obtain information which will be shared with the In Year Fair Access Protocol (IYFAP) panel.
The IYFAP panel sit fortnighly to decide on future education provision for excluded pupils. Their aim is to ensure that the young person returns to their education with minimum disruption.
6) Is it legal for my 13 year old child to work before/after school?
Yes, but there are guidelines that need to be followed, and an application for a work permit needs to be processed by the Authority.
