Fees and discounts
A yearly fee of £6.00 per person is charged a the time of enrolment and is additional to the costs listed in the course guide in some cases. Short courses may already have the enrolment fee included in the cost of the course. This will be deducted if you have already paid this fee as this only applies once, i.e., if you take more than one course, you will not be expected to pay this again.
Fees
Fees shown alongside courses with qualifications cover the length of the course, for example 30 weeks. Most non qualification courses are for 10 weeks (unless otherwise specified) and are offered over three terms. The price quoted is for tuition fees any consumable costs and examination fees if applicable.
Discounts
To claim discounted fees you must bring evidence e.g. benefit book, bus pass, award notice, official letter or Home Office statement, at the time of enrolment otherwise you will be charged the full cost of the course. Skills for Life Literacy and Numeracy classes are free. ESOL courses now incur charges, please contact the Skills for Life team on 0161 253 5766 for more information.
Qualification courses
Discounts may apply if you are:
- On Jobseekers Allowance
- Income Support
- Working Tax Credit
- Pension (guarantee) Credit
- Housing Benefit
- Council Tax Benefit
- under 19 years of age and not in any other full time education
Non qualification courses:
A discount may apply for Bury MBC residents who are on the benefits above. Please check at one of the centres prior to enrolment.
Creche fees
Crèche fees are charged at the rate of £4.50 per session on a termly Basis. ESOL learners please contact the Skills for Life team on 0161 253 5766 for more information.
Students eligible for reduced tuition fees requiring a crèche place are also eligible for crèche fee discounts.

How do I enrol?
You can enrol in person at any Centre for any course by:
- Cash
- Cheque
- Credit/Debit card
- Maestro / Visa Electron / Switch / Solo
- By telephone using your credit / debit card or Switch / Solo card
If you wish to claim a discount in fees you need to enrol in person
bringing your evidence with you.

Enrolments are currently taking place:
- Bury Adult Education Centre: Monday — Friday 9:30am to 4:00pm.
Evening enrolments 6:00pm to 8:00pm,
- Ramsbottom Library, Carr Street: Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday 9:30am to 7:00pm and Saturday 9:30am to 12:30pm.
- Prestwich Library and Adult Learning Centre, Longfield Centre: Monday and Thursday 9:30am to 7:00pm, Tuesday and Friday 9:30am to 5:00pm, Wednesday and Saturday 9:30am to 12:30pm.
- Whitefield Library and Adult Learning Centre, Pinfold Lane: Monday and Thursday 9:30am to 7:00pm, Tuesday and Friday 9:30am to 5:00pm and Saturday 9:30am to 12:30pm.
