In recent years Bury elections office has been proactive in central governments' pilot schemes, aimed at enhancing voter turnout at local elections. In the local elections of 2000 we were the first Authority in the country to use an electronic voting and counting system, i.e. touch screen voting. We shall continue to be involved in the pilot schemes and use latest innovations to enhance voter turnout.
We are responsible for the administration and organisation of elections held in Bury. This includes; hiring premises for use as polling stations, appointing polling and counting officials, issuing postal and proxy votes, delivering poll cards and the verifying candidates nomination papers.
We also compile and publish the electoral register every December as well as amending and updating the register on a monthly basis. If you are registered to vote, you will receive your poll card shortly before the election. If you do not receive a poll card and believe you are registered to vote at your present address, please contact our office to confirm this. Your poll card confirms that you are eligible to vote at that election. It also provides details of your polling station and the hours of poll. You do not need to take your poll card with you to the polling station in order to vote, although it helps speed up the process if you do.
