Electoral boundaries

With effect from the day of the election of Councillors in 2004, electoral arrangements for Bury agreed by the Electoral Commission on 12 February 2004, provide for 17 Wards in the Metropolitan Borough, with each Ward represented by 3 Councillors to form a Council of 51 Members.

The electoral arrangements ensure that the number of electors represented by each Councillor are as near as possible the same, taking into account local circumstances. The number of electors for Councillors varies by no more than 9% from the borough average figures based on the 2006 forecast figures.

The Bury electorate figures based on the 2006 forecast are:

  • Total electorate - 140,697
  • Average electorate for Ward - 8,276
  • Average number of electors for Councillor - 2,759
