- Community safety (including drugs, anti-social behaviour, environmental crime, youth offending and Community Safety Strategy/Community Safety Partnership), Community Cohesion. Community engagement, social inclusion and area working.
- Scrutiny of relevant aspects of the Community Strategy, in particular Safe, Strong and Confident Communities theme.
- Scrutiny of relevant borough partnerships: Community Safety Partnership and Local Community Safety Partnerships

The Chair of the Safe, Strong and Confident Communities Scrutiny Commission is Councillor Barry Theckston.
The full membership of the Commission reflects the political balance of the Council and comprises of 9 elected Councillors and 2 non voting co-opted members.

- The Safe Strong and Confident Communities Scrutiny Commission has set up sub groups on the following topics:
- Domestic Violence (meeting on 9 and 31 July 2008 at 9:30am)
- Community Cohesion (meeting dates to be agreed)
Public involvement
The meetings of the Committee are open to the press and members of the public and an item is included on the agenda to allow the public to ask any questions about the performance of the Council or local authority services generally.
