There are various levels of health scrutiny affecting Bury residents, involving local authorities, health services and the public, on a regional, area and local level.
Regional
Association of Greater Manchester Authorities (AGMA)
In order to save time, money and avoid duplication of effort, all Councils across Greater Manchester have agreed to set up a joint health scrutiny committee to scrutinise the following services:-
- NHS Northwest (formerly the Greater Manchester Strategic Health Authority)
- Greater Manchester Ambulance Service
- Christies
- Greater Manchester Workforce Confederation

For the time being, the joint committee has suspended its work on the above organisations to focus on the scrutiny of proposals for the reconfiguration of Childrens Services - 'Making it Better'.
To do this a new statutory joint committee was formed called 'Making it Better'. It is anticipated that this joint committee will complete its work by 30th April 2006.
Making it Better
This new statutory joint committee was formed in September 2005 to formally scrutinise proposals for the reorganisation of Childrens Services across Greater Manchester, Cheshire and parts of Lancashire and Derbyshire.

Healthy futures
This new joint committee met for the first time in September 2005, here in Bury. The purpose of the joint committee was to formally scrutinise proposals for major changes in the investment of hospital services across the North East Sector. The North East sector relates to the North East of Greater Manchester and covers Bury.

The Pennine Acute Hospitals NHS Trust serves the geographical areas of Bury, North Manchester, Oldham and Rochdale. The Trust has hospitals at Fairfield General - Bury, North Manchester, Royal Oldham and Rochdale Infirmary.

Bury Metropolitan Borough Council - Healthier Communities Scrutiny Commission
This committee is comprised of members of Bury Council, co-opted members from Bury Primary Care Trust (PCT) and the Patient and Public Involvement (PPI) Forum.
