The Valuation Office Agency has valued every domestic property in the borough. Each property has been put into one of eight bands, based on the amount the property would have sold for on 1st April 1991.
The values for each band are as follows: -
- Band A £40,000 or below
- Band B £40,001 to £52,000
- Band C £52,001 to £68,000
- Band D £68,001 to £88,000
- Band E £88,001 to £120,000
- Band F £120,001 to £160,000
- Band G £160,001 to £320,000
- Band H over £320,000
If you think your property should be in a lower band you may appeal directly to the Valuation Office Agency to reduce it. However, you may only appeal within the first six months of becoming the Council Tax payer at that address, unless one of the following reasons applies:
- Your property is demolished;
- Your house is changed into flats;
- There are changes to your local area, which would affect the value of your property.
If you do appeal to the Valuation Office Agency about your band, you still need to pay the Council Tax based on your current band, until the appeal is decided. If your appeal is successful and it turns out that you have paid too much Council Tax we will either reduce any future instalments or give you a refund.
