Council Tax - payment by direct debit

Why not make payment by Direct Debit through your bank account? The Council offers a choice of 3 payment dates of the 5th, 15th or 25th of the month. We currently have over 44,000 people in Bury who have already decided to pay their Council Tax by Direct Debit.
 
Council tax is usually due in 10 monthly instalments from April to January. As from the 1st  April 2008 if you choose to pay by Direct Debit  you can also have the option to pay up to 12 monthly instalments, ie April to March.

Direct Debit is the most efficient way of paying your bills and keeps costs down as low as possible. It is the easiest and most convenient way to pay, which the Council and your bank or building society will recommend to you.
The advantages are;
  • We and your bank or building society do all the work.
  • No more writing cheques, posting letters or standing in queues
  • You get the Direct Debit guarantee plus
  • A choice of 3 payment dates.
  • Choice of 10 monthly payments up to January or 12 monthly payments up to March

Payment by any other method is up to 10 monthly instalments to January and payments are due on the 5th of each month.

If you want to change to direct debit simply print off and complete the direct debit application form (90kb 1 page pdf) and return to the Council Tax Office, 7 Whittaker Street Radcliffe M26 2DT.
