Performance Management

What is Performance Management?

Performance Management in Bury is a series of techniques used by the Council to plan, monitor & direct activities so that services are delivered effectively and efficiently in line with our priorities.

Key building blocks in this approach include:

  • A robust planning & performance framework.  Council priorities are clearly set out in the Bury Plan and these cascade down through departmental and team plans.
  • Regular monitoring of our performance indicators & financial position
  • Risk Management
  • Procurement & project planning
  • Service assessment (including Best Value)

Support for this work comes from the Performance Team.

What does the Performance Team do? 

The Performance Management Team under the Deputy Chief Executive co-ordinates the management of the Council's performance and ensures the whole Council works towards continuous improvement.  We constantly monitor progress within the Council and set targets to achieve further improvements for the benefit of the community.
 
The Team is made up of the Head of Performance & Corporate Planning, two Performance Review Officers and a Performance Review Assistant.
 
Key areas of responsibility include:
  • Collating and reporting data on all of the Council's national and local performance indicators (PIs);
  • Monitoring progress and working with others to improve service performance;
  • Checking the progress of the Council's key objectives;
  • Leading Corporate Planning and Performance Framework;
  • Supporting departments in the review of services;
  • Delivering training on performance management;
  • Liaising with various auditors and inspectors;
  • Reporting back on the Council's progress, both internally and externally.
  • Coordinating Corporate Performance Assessments
