Adult Care - The vision for the future

Adult Care Services Vision- We would like your comments and views....

Social care services have been changing for a number of years, mainly driven by central government guidance and legislation. Over the last couple of months, Adult Care Services have also begun a process to develop and agree a new ‘Vision’ for our services here in Bury. Why does this matter and what does it mean?

Well, national government has increasingly emphasised that Councils’ adult social services across England need to rethink their relationship with the local citizens, including service users; with partners such as Health, Housing and Leisure; and with providers in the private, public and voluntary sectors.  Bury Council cannot afford to be left behind in this process of change, even though it will make working life even more challenging for all of us working in Adult Services in the months and  years ahead.

My role as Director is to steer the whole of our department successfully through this period of change, and that means ensuring all of us understand the direction we are heading, and the means and timescales for us to get there.

The ‘Vision’ is the first part of this – setting out where we will be heading as an organisation.  The Vision attempts to summarise in a few lines the key elements of what Adult Care Services will be about, and serve as the basis for Councillors and Bury citizens, partners and providers,  to mark and measure our progress as we develop and implement our modernisation plans.

We have produced a draft Vision for consultation and I hope you will take the chance to express your views and comments on it.

Draft Vision:

In terms of adult social care services, Bury will be a place where:

  • People influence, choose and control the support they need
  • Outcomes are continually improving
  • People are supported to improve their wellbeing
  • Everyone is included in the community
  • Life chances are maximised

Bury Adult Care Services will do this by:

  • Being customer focussed
  • Listening to the people of Bury and responding accordingly
  • Making decision based on sound evidence and a financially sustainable business case
  • Investing in and supporting the social care workforces in the town
  • Offering choice
  • Ensuring partnerships are productive through strong and effective leadership

Please take this opportunity to help shape the future of Bury Adult Care Services and the services we provide and commission.
