Best Value

What is Best Value?

‘Best Value’ is a duty placed on local councils by central government to encourage continuous improvement in local authority services.

Bury is committed to Best Value.  We are always looking for better ways of delivering services and getting the most for your money.

We do this by:

  • Challenging what we do and how we do it.  This involves constantly reviewing our services to find out if they meet the needs and expectations of our residents, users and partners. Much of this work is checked by independent, external inspectors.
  • Comparing our services with others to see how we can improve.  A key element involves measuring our performance against performance indicators (PIs) and bench marking our services against other Councils or providers.
  • Consulting the people affected by what we do, regular contact (and encouraging residents to be involved in the design of services) is developing to provide everybody with an opportunity to have their say.
  • Competing to make sure the best supplier provides your services.
