What is the purpose of Annual Achievement Awards?
The Annual Achievement Awards enable the council to record its appreciation to individuals and groups of employees who have provided outstanding public services to residents, local businesses and visitors to Bury.
Why is the council running this scheme?
The purpose of the scheme is to:
- Recognise outstanding achievements (and contributions to service improvements) made by Council employees;
- Show the importance the Council places on high standards;
- Value personal development and self improvement within the organisation as a means of improving services;
- Promote awareness of how good and improving performance takes place at all levels in the organisation.
What are the categories for nomination?
Ten awards are available this year.
There will be a Team of the Year for each of the four departments of the council, namely:
- Chief Executive's
- Children's Services
- Environment and Development Services
- Adult Care Services
There will also be an Employee of the Year for each department. One individual will be named Council Employee of the Year and receive the David Burton (a former Chief Executive) Achiever of the Year Award. In addition a Partnership award will be presented to a team who have worked exceptionally well with partners.
Who can be nominated?
Anybody employed by the Council. The awards are not open to contractors or people not directly employed by the council.
What is meant by good public services?
To a large extent this is for you, the nominating person or group, to decide. For example, it may be:
- an individual that has shown dedication to the job over a long period of time
- noticeable improvements in the way services are delivered
- something that has had a positive impact on yours or other people's lives
- better facilities or services as a result of the Council listening to what you say
It is important to tell us why you are nominating somebody. This will help the judges come to a decision.
Who can make nominations?
- anybody who lives, works or studies in Bury
- anybody who works for Bury Council
- voluntary groups and organisations who work with Bury Council
- local businesses, big or small and establishments which provide services to or receive services from Bury Council
- anybody who visits the Borough
What if I don't know the name of the individual or their department?
Don't worry. Give us as much information as you can such as a brief description, the type of work they do, where they work, etc. and we will do the rest.
