What is the Bury Metro Community Twinning Association?
The Bury Metro Community Twinning Association, is an organisation of people who carry out most of Bury's twinning functions with the exception of school exchanges. They are independent of the local authority.
What is the main work of the association?
The association has members of all ages and from many walks of life from Bury and its surroundings. It arranges exchange visits to Angouleme, Schorndorf, Tulle and Woodbury by adult or family groups. These sometimes include special inters, or occupations, groups, such as musicians, choirs, dramatic societies, policemen, firemen and nurses.
The Association (BMCTA) is managed by a Committee who meet on a monthly basis, with sub-committees for each twin town. They hold regular meetings and events for members, such as wine-tastings, concerts, lectures and social fund raising functions, in addition to the activities when a twinning group is being hosted in Bury.
The main work of the association has been visits to and from our twin towns. Members stay with families for four to five days, explore their town and region, share their customs and celebrations; with similar hospitality being given to visitors to Bury.
There is no obligation to members of groups to provide hospitality, but it is hoped that members will host whenever it is possible. The only cost involved when going on these trips is travel and accommodation expenses.
