The Bury Community encompasses a number of major cultures and faiths as indicated so far in this brochure. However, many other groups exist in the community from various backgrounds. Many of these groups are not represented in the most recent census which was carried out in 2001 although community centres are in place in Bury to recognise and support these people.
According to the Home Office, a total of 392,000 individuals from the eight Eastern European states which joined the EU in May 2004 have come to Britain and many Polish, Ukranian and Romanian people have become residents of Bury.
The Irish community is significant in the Borough with almost 2% of residents from Irish backgrounds.
In addition there are many refugees and asylum seekers in Bury originally from countries such as Iraq and Iran.
Over 1% of the Bury community are from mixed cultures with mixed origins of Asian, White and Black races.
