Equality and diversity

Equality Scheme 2006 - 2009

In 2002, we produced a three year Race Equality Scheme to meet the requirements of the Race Relations (Amendment) Act 2000 (RRAA).  This scheme was updated for 2005 - 2008.

December 2006

With the requirements on public service providers to produce a Disability Equality Scheme by December 2006 and a Gender Equality Scheme by March 2007 we are now taking a generic approach to Equality and Diversity.

This Equality Scheme builds on the Council’s race equality work so far, but extends the good practice by considering Race, Religion and/or Belief, Disability, Age, Gender, Sexual Orientation and Caring responsibilities.

Underneath this Equality Scheme sits our Race Policy and our Disability Policy and together these form our Race Equality Scheme and Disability Equality Scheme. The policies will be extended to cover Gender in 2007 and other areas in the future.

These sections of the scheme apply to the Race Equality, Disability Equality and Gender Equality Schemes.

Monitoring

Our annual report monitors progress over the previous year in terms of our Race, Disability and Gender Equality Schemes and equality and diversity agenda. Because our approach has been a generic one across the 7 strands, where possible our monitoring data covers all 7 strands.

Impact Needs Requirement Assessments (INRAs)

Impact Needs Requirement Assessments are the way Bury Council looks at our existing services, functions and policies with regard to race, disability, gender, age, sexual orientation, caring responsibilities and religion and belief .  Here you will find the completed INRAs for 2006 to 2007.  These INRAs were completed in December 2006.

Equality Impact Assessments

Bury Council's Equality Impact Assessment (EIA) process looks at significant proposals or changes to Council's policies and procedures and their impact on 7 diverse groups (race, disability, gender, age, sexual orientation, caring responsibilities and religion and belief).  There are 3 stages to the EIA.  You can view the EIAs completed by the Council by following the links below:
