Disabled Employee Group

Bury Council values and celebrates diversity, and is committed to equality of opportunity and fairness for all. We have established a Disabled Employee Group who are regularly consulted on Council policies and working practices, and offer an important support network for staff.

Employee Support

It is the Group's intention to be a first point of contact and provide support to any Council employees who have a disability.

The Group may be able to assist directly, or alternatively liaise on your behalf with Departmental or Corporate HR staff, Occupational Health or one of the unions.

Please feel free to contact Barbara Hicks on 0161 253 5542 or 07917 091 318.

Access to Work

Access to Work is an initiative managed by Job Centre Plus, available to provide additional help and support to enable disabled employees to fulfil their potential at work.

Assistance can be for both disabled persons about to take up a post, and also for those in existing employment.

Further information can be found in this leaflet Access to Work Leaflet (65kb 2 page pdf)

The main contact within the Council for support with Access to Work is Ann Bolt in Occupational Health. She can be contacted on 0161 253 5156.

Disability Access and Involvement Forum (DAIF)

Bury Council is proud to have strong links with the Disability Access and Involvement Forum (DAIF), managed by Baddac Access. DAIF regularly liaise and consult with the Council on access issues, planning issues, disability awareness training and general Council policies, procedures and working practices. They also have a helpline run by disabled volunteers.

For further information or assistance please contact Ron Shambley on 0161 253 6901.
